Late 3-goal comeback gives Virginia Tech stunning upset over No. 6 Florida State women's soccer

Predicting which four teams will make the 2024 Women's College Cup

Virginia Tech women's soccer came alive in the last 10 minutes of Sunday's match against the defending national champs, No. 6 Florida State, stomping on the Seminoles' 2-0 lead with three unanswered goals. The 3-2 comeback victory was the Hokies' first-ever win over FSU in their 23-match series history.

It's the second straight loss for the Seminoles after No. 4 Wake Forest snapped their 32-game unbeaten streak Thursday night. The last time Florida State dropped two consecutive games was early in the 2019 season.

After a physical first half that saw five combined yellow cards and three shots per team, the ACC foes headed into the second half scoreless. Here is a rundown with timestamps of all the second-half action:

49:38 | FSU 1, VT 0
Just five minutes into the half, FSU standout Jordyn Dudley expertly placed a penalty kick into the back right corner, claiming the first lead of the match.

66:44 | FSU 2, VT 0

Fresh off the bench, Lara Dantas doubled the Seminole lead by bringing down a lofted cross with an insane first touch and hitting a left-footed shot off the bounce.

79:00 |  FSU 2, VT 1
It's known in soccer that two-nil is the most dangerous lead, and the Hokies reminded us all of just how true that can be. In a sport where a moment can shift momentum, and momentum can shift results, Sarah Rosenbaum's sneak header goal was the split-second needed to turn the tides. As soon as the ball hit the net, the Hokies rushed a celebration as they scooped up the ball and made their way back to the half line. Ready to go again.

84:00 |  FSU 2, VT 2
The equalizer came off another header finish as Kylie Marschall connected with the ball midair, finding space in a box full of FSU defenders and sending the ball curling into the back net. Add that moment to the shift in tides.

86:52 |  VT 3, FSU 2

With a screaming home crowd to fuel their energy, the Hokies solidified their comeback with a one-time Taylor Price finish who found herself one-on-one with the FSU keeper with just minutes left to play. After 34 total fouls, eight of which resulted in yellow cards, the ACC battle was won in the final 10 minutes of play.
