Texas holds off Oregon for No. 1 in Week 8's AP Top 25

How the 12-team College Football Playoff works

A top-three matchup and two more top-25 matchups were the only games that ranked teams lost last week. Nonetheless, the latest AP Top 25 saw changes. Here's what you need to know.

Texas holds off Oregon for No. 1

Texas held off Oregon for the top spot in this week's AP Top 25 by 51 points. The Longhorns dominated a ranked Oklahoma team in the Red River Rivalry, as quarterback Quinn Ewers shined in his return to the lineup. 

Oregon comes in right behind Texas in the rankings at No. 2. The Ducks moved up one spot after beating then-No. 2 Ohio State by one point at home.

LSU moves into the top 10

After LSU beat then-No.9 Ole Miss the Tigers moved up five spots to enter the top 10 at No. 8. LSU isn't the lone team to join the top 10 this week, as Iowa State also rose two spots to No. 9.

We already talked about the top-two spots, but the rest of the top five is made up of No. 3 Penn State, No. 4 Ohio State and No. 5 Georgia. Ohio State only fell two spots after its loss.

The rest of the top 10 sees No. 6 Miami, No. 7 Alabama and No. 10 Clemson. The SEC has four teams in the top 10, with Tennessee falling to No. 11.

Army and Navy enter this week's rankings

Army and Navy were the two teams to join this week's rankings, replacing Utah and Oklahoma after the schools lost last week. Both schools are a part of the 11 undefeated teams remaining in the FBS. Liberty is the lone undefeated team to be unranked.

Navy joins the top 25 for the first time after a bye last week, but the Midshipmen started the season 5-0. Army joins the top 25 for the first time this season after moving to 6-0 with a dominant win over UAB. Army now has the nation's longest active win streak at 10 games.
